A Christ Vibe
Scott and I had lunch with my in-laws, Doug and Jane. Even though we were dining at Dairy Queen, I was dressed for a long overdue dinner date with my husband. The lunch was a bonus to the main event: handing over our children for a sleepover at Grammy and Poppy's house.
As we greeted them, Doug said, "Well, I'm going to ask the question that everyone is thinking: are you losing weight?" This is the question that makes almost any woman beem.
I had been walking 2-3 times per day after meals for a few weeks (see A Walk in the Margin) and felt great, but I had only lost about 3 pounds so far. Surely, someone can't look that different with 3 pounds missing. Admittedly, it was probably the heels. (Yes, I was wearing high-heeled boots at Dairy Queen.)
Or maybe I was just sending out a thin vibe. I had been working really hard to eat right and walk in addition to my regular weight training. I was feeling more fit so maybe I was giving off that vibe.
That got me thinking . . .
I will admit that I love compliments. And I'm not picky about what kind of compliments they are: hair, makeup, jewelry, clothes, or my very character. I will take whatever compliments I can get.
But more than giving off a thin vibe (or pretty, or nice, or funny, or a good mom vibe), my ultimate desire is to give off a Christ vibe. I want everything about me to lead others to Christ. I'm pretty sure my high-heeled boots can't accomplish that, but my attitude can.
"You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had . . . Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people." Philippians 2:5, 14-15 (NLT)
