Trivia Crack Crown
I was introduced to the game Trivia Crack about 2 months ago, but I didn't become addicted to it until more recently. (Yes, I know . . . I am always behind the times.)
No wonder it's named after a drug. If you're not familiar with this game, it's like playing Trivial Pursuit with one friend at a time. The goal of the game is to get all 6 "crowns" (pies in the traditional Trivial Pursuit) before your rival does.
I was never very good at Trivial Pursuit years ago since my geography skills are sub-par and my retention of history facts is laughable. However, homeschooling my two boys has given me a leg up on younger Tammy. As it turns out, teaching a subject is one of the best ways to learn a subject.
Today's devotional (on the mytrbc app) included this verse: "Fear of the LORD is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline." Proverbs 1:7 (NLT)
I have to admit that it is pretty exciting to gain a crown for answering an entertainment question like "Who wrote Oliver Twist?" I never thought I'd be able to answer this question correctly: "Which is the largest Caribbean island?" And I don't think I had even heard of the Wampanoag tribe (the answer to the question: "Which Indian tribe taught the pilgrims to cultivate the land?") until about a year ago.
I have certainly increased my knowledge of history, geography, and more in the past 8 years of homeschooling, but how much more do I desire "true knowledge." Respect for God and His Word is the beginning of that knowledge.
Wisdom is defined as "knowledge of what is true or right coupled with just judgement as to action" (dictionary.com).
Discipline is the "activity, exercise, or a regimen that develops or improves a skill; training" (dictionary.com).
I hate losing games of Trivia Crack, especially when I should've known the answer to a missed question, but, even more so, I do not want to be considered a fool in the eyes of God. I want to respect God and His Word and love wisdom and discipline. The bonus is that Paul says we'll get the ultimate crown, not just a Trivia Crack crown.
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. And now the prize awaits me — the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing." 2 Timothy 4:7-8 (NLT)
