Home Movies
My kids love to watch home movies.
While organizing pictures from 2009 (yes, I am still THAT far behind in making photo albums), I came across videos as well.
One question from my then-7-year-old was repeated in multiple videos: "What am I . . . a chicken head . . . or a rock star head?"
We have absolutely no idea where this came from. I don't even remember hearing this before. Of course, this is why it's so fun to watch old home movies.
In our everyday lives, we don't realize how different we are from a few years ago. We had different clothes, hairstyles, and ways of speaking.
Looking back on our spiritual lives can be a fun thing, too. What kind of situations has God grown us through in the past few years? What scriptures has He led us to memorize? What devotional books have we learned from? What gifts have we used to serve others?
Reflecting on these questions can be encouraging, realizing how much God has grown us . . . or it can be convicting. Maybe we've dropped good habits and allowed the worries of life to smother our relationship with the Lord.
Home movies can be embarrassing at times, but when we watch them in the presence of those we love, we don't have to be afraid. Reflecting on our spiritual growth (or lack thereof) doesn't have to be scary either, when we look back in the presence of the One Who loves us the most.
