Home Alone
There I was, lurking outside my own house like a peeping tom. My 2-year-old, Kaden, looked back at me from his highchair where he was eating his dinner and waved. How could I have let this happen? He could fall out of the highchair! He could choke! Being alone might scare him.
We had just moved into a new house. While I was unpacking, a new friend surprised us by bringing us dinner. We had been living on fast food and takeout for what seemed like an eternity so a home-cooked meal was a welcome sight.
I walked her to the door, stepping out on the porch to enjoy a beautiful fall evening while we finished our conversation. My 5-year-old came out to join us, shutting the door behind him. "We gotta keep the buggies out, Mommy!"
The problem: we were now locked out. My husband was at a basketball game so, thankfully, I was able to use my friend's phone to ask him to come home and let us in.
In the twenty minutes we waited, every possible (and impossible) tragic scenario went through my mind. I thought, at the very least, Kaden would be screaming and crying by the time we got in the house.
Kaden had not even noticed. He was still content playing and eating in his highchair. He had no idea what was going on around him.
1 Peter 5:7 says, "Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you." What a relief! I don't have to worry about possible and impossible scenarios. I like to think that Kaden didn't cry because he knew his parents loved him and always took care of him.
No matter what's going on in my life, whether I'm aware of it or not, I can give all of my stress and worry to God, knowing that the God of the Universe cares about me.
