HunterBoy vs. the Evil Cucumber of Evilness

Our family has been reading along with the mytrbc app for a little more than a year now. We just finished Revelation, one of my boys' favorite books of the Bible. They love the action, the visuals created by the words, and the last battle. When we got to one of the last verses where John says, "Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!" they were so excited. I asked them, "Isn't it great that we know Who wins in the end?" They both responded, "Ya, the devil is going to lose!"

That reminds me of when Hunter was about five years old. He was a huge Bibleman fan. He would run around the house in his Bibleman costume -- cape, mask, and Sword of the Spirit (which, in this case, was a literal plastic sword). His name was not Bibleman, though. It was HunterBoy! HunterBoy's archenemy was The Evil Cucumber of Evilness. (If you couldn't tell, Hunter was also a huge fan of LarryBoy at the time.)

Scott, of course, played the villain every night. Even in HunterBoy's darkest hour, he would come back and defeat The Evil Cucumber of Evilness with one simple thing . . . John 3:16: "For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life."

I am so grateful that at such a young age, my children know the power of God and His Word.

Matthew 4:1-11 records the temptation of Jesus by the devil. Each of the three times the devil tempts Jesus, Jesus responds with Scripture. Jesus shows us by example that we don't have to fight the devil in our own power but with the power of God's Word. So this year, my family plans to follow the example of the psalmist when he says, "I have hidden your word in my heart," (Psalm 119:11). We want to be ready to fight our archenemy . . . who is unfortunately not The Evil Cucumber of Evilness.
