Hi.

I crave strong, hot coffee and perfectly browned toast, but life often interferes. I choose to search for the beauty and humor in the chaos.

What's the word on the lips of so many on this Valentine's Day? LOVE

What does it mean to really love someone? Is it merely the fluttery feelings in our stomachs when the man of our dreams comes near? Is it the swell of warmth in our chests as we look down on our sleeping children? Is it the comfort we feel when we are wrapped in the embrace of our mothers?

We have all heard the love chapter, 1 Corinthians 13, at just about every wedding we've ever been to (mine included), but Romans 12:10 describes what we do with love a little differently: "Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other."

We honor others by treating them with respect because of their inherent worth. Our worth is not determined by what others may think of us or what we have accomplished in our lives. Our inherent worth is judged by what the God of the universe thinks of us.

"God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins." Ephesians 1:5-7 (NLT)

What is our inherent worth? We are worth the sacrifice of God's only Son. As we celebrate love today with tiny candy hearts, boxes of chocolates, roses, and cards, let's enjoy honoring everyone we see because of their inherent worth. God loves us extravagantly so let's share that love with others.
